Quilt from garments

I got a message yesterday late afternoon from a quilter who informed me she’ll send me 5 quilts today.  Even though I’ve been doing this for a couple of years, receiving a parcel still feels like Christmas, not knowing what to expect.  I had to smile as when I got my machine, I thought it might come in handy once on a pension for that little extra income.  In my wildest dreams, I could not imagine this escalating so fast.  I am not complaining though.

The last of the memory quilt for this specific family is made up of different garments including pyjamas, swimming trunks and shirts and for this, the quilter asked for all-over hearts as this one will go to the mom.

While I got busy with the next quilt, hubby was in the one guest room.  I use this room to keep my ironing board but the only space I had was right in front of the cupboards.  Whenever I needed something from this cupboard I had to move the ironing board.

After changing the cupboard doors – the previous ones were painted and in terrible condition, hubby decided to build me a cupboard to the side just for the ironing board.

Once done, I can lift the stands and put it into the cupboard.

Voila! All neat and matching the other cupboard doors.  The black plank to the side is my extra wide ironing board which I simply lay over the existing one when ironing wide backings.

This is the second memory quilt made from old garments for the family mentioned in my previous post.

Camouflage fabric quilt

The last of the quilts sent to me from Nelspruit, some 800 kilometres from where I stay, was returned to the quilter on Monday.  The next quilt was only booked for Wednesday, giving me a day off on Tuesday.  Cleaned the house and then decided I could treat myself to some sushi for supper.  One day less to cook and I’ve been craving this for days now.

I also had time to binge-watch From Scratch on Netflix but even though it had raving reviews from other watchers, it was not my cup of tea. I am not into sad love stories.

I have this morning off again and will enjoy breakfast with a friend.

This quilt was made from old garments as a memory quilt for the parents of a young man who lost his life in a car accident.  There are apparently two more to come for the same family.

Applique sampler

I do not get sampler quilts very often but they do remain my absolute favourite to quilt for the simple reason that I don’t have to repeat one quilting motif in several blocks to give the quilt a uniform feeling.  With a sampler, such as this applique quilt, I can go bonkers and do something different in every block.  I just loved working on this one.

I only took photos of some of the blocks to try and show the fun I had.

It’s all about the rose

This quilter not only used rose-printed fabric as the main attraction, but even some of the matching fabric had roses or other flowers.  Then she placed 4 rose applique blocks in the corners to get this amazing look.

This quilt will be sent to Australia as a gift for her daughter. I chose a flower for the edge-to-edge design in most of the quilt and then just ruler work around the appliqued roses.
