Block 33 – Kerry

With us, admin staff at the office, being utterly bored seeing that the fitters all work on huge contracts and we therefore have very little paperwork to do, I got to do some handwork and I finished block 33.  That is now apart from doing my private posts on the blog from the office computer too.  The more you own, the more problems/trouble you have.

Block 32 Marilyn

I was able to finish this block while watching the Federer/Cilic final of the Australian Open but I am not feeling this quilt.  I don’t mind scrappy but there must be some calming factor in the mix and this one is becoming way too busy for me. Whatever the case, another block finished.

Block 31 – Jacqui

Having had granddaughter sleeping over Wednesday night I did some handwork while watching her as she spent almost the whole day in the swimming pool on Thursday and I got to finish Block 31.

I then traced a picture of one of the “My little ponies” onto fabric for her to colour with permanent markers and then finished it off as a scatter cushion.  She was so impressed with her grandma and now wants me to make lots as she wants to sell them for $20 each.  We don’t even deal in dollar in South Africa!  Amazing what television will teach these youngsters.

Block 30

I sure am in no hurry to finish this but slowly I am getting there.  This is Debbie the 30th block.

Block 29 – Bev

MIL turned 86 yesterday and I had her, the kids and the grandchildren over but unlike the Sunday lunches I imagine in other houses, ours is hectic and extremely noisy.  Sometimes I wonder if MIL sees an invite from us as a pleasure or punishment.

Granddaughter already came to us on Saturday and slept over.  So we did not have a neat and tidy house to welcome the visitors into.  Luckily they are all family.

Before long granddaughter had everyone colouring with her, then some dancing on the bar counter, followed by a game of “duck-duck-goose” (I think??) around the dining room table.  Grandson has started to eat and enjoyed his pumpkin and is such a friendly little soul.

With everyone gone and the house turning extremely quiet I had time to finish this little block.

Block 28 – Mary Ellen

Another one finished in the month of May and enough reason to go celebrate with quilt friend Sonja.

We went to dinner yesterday evening and I had fresh oysters for the first time in my life.  It was amazing but apparently I misbehaved after one too many drinks. I can’t recall anything bad but Karin had to come rescue me, so I guess the crap Sonja tells me must be true.

Anyway….. a good thing Karin came as my car wouldn’t start and it turns out that the battery needs to be replaced.

Block 27 – Victoria

If you can overlook the fact that I am more than 2 years behind on this “Katja Marek’s Quilt with me” project, I’ve made it halfway through this quilt along and I actually love the hand sewing, not constantly or every day but occasionally it is so good to do.

Then I had a lady selling medicinal Cannabis over at my house on Sunday afternoon, telling me all about the uses, the pro’s and the cons and hoping to speed up the healing process of both my frozen shoulder and jaw wound. Apparently it can make you feel bad for the first two weeks, driving out all the toxins in your body but then the healing should rapidly improve.  This is my Marijuana stash for the next two months.

She also gave me a recipe for bone building and prevention of osteoporosis and told me all about Oil pulling, something I am eager to start trying too.  The joys of being old…. Collecting recipes to heal you, how fun?!

Block 26 – Linda

Finally…. With my frozen shoulder behaving extremely well (it still freezer up at night when I’m asleep) I get to continue with my Katja Marek’s Quilt with me EPP project.

This is the 26^th block of 52, so I guess I’m halfway there. Yeah!

Block 25 – Marjorie

I have granddaughter and her nephew over.  We went for dinner last night and then they slept over.  With breakfast prepared and me trying to keep busy without starting anything too strenuous, as it would be interrupted if any one of them wakes up, I discovered a photo of block 25 that was completed but never blogged about.

I don’t really recall when or where I was when I finished this but I guess as long as it is done, who really cares?

Block 24 – Evelyn

Finished this while waiting for my daughter to see a show called The Strip show at a local theatre performed by a Bible and Sex fundi….. so nothing kinky at all (hopefully).  Worst part is that it wasn’t planned to go as a mother/daughter team but with our partners and then life happened and it didn’t work out.  So I suppose we’ll try our hardest to explain to our men afterwards!

Like the colours of Block 24 much more than block 23 but I am sure in the end they will all work together.

Block 23 – Dawn

This one turned out a little too bright and bold for me but it is done and I am not redoing it!

Block 22 - Nancy

Another thing that makes these quiltlets so nice to make is that I can use all the fabric I often wondered what ever made my buy these.  Now I can work out some of that “not so nice” fabric without wasting any.

Block 21 - Elaine

Not much happened on the quilting front this weekend.  We had our granddaughter for a sleepover on Friday and when she left Saturday morning I prepped and planned my Sunday lunch before we headed off to our friends to watch rugby on television with them.

Sunday morning I went shopping with DIL for the new baby while DH played golf, then had all the kids and MIL over for lunch.

Luckily block 21 was already pieced and halfway quilted or I wouldn’t have had anything to show.

Block 20 - Barb

I have a cupboard full of summer’s clothing and nothing fits.  I simply gained too much weight this winter and it sucks.  So I’ve decided not to go on a diet as these anyway never work but to apply serious “intake control”.  I SHALL constantly think about what I am about to put in my mouth….I simply have to!

On a nicer note I’ve finished block 20 and isn’t she a beauty?

Block 19 – Nicole

Somehow summer is not quite in the mood to come visit us this year and after having packed all my winter’s clothing away, we were hit by yet another freezing cold day.  So a knee-high pants, short sleeved top, sandals and a jersey was my outfit for work.  When I got to the office the heater was turned on – such a contradiction!

Got to finish block 19 and still enjoying these quiltlets.

Block 18 Carla

Our local Telkom workers have been rather annoying lately with having to install new optic fibre cables and with my luck the telephone pole would be right in my yard.  Not fun to have strangers come into your space with three huge dogs around and it turns out, our newest Border collie is more viscous than anyone of us ever suspected.

Fortunately DH could sort out the crap as it turned out they wanted to plant a pole in a new spot in our yard not 2 meters away from an existing pole in the neighbour’s yard – empty plot with no dogs.  Really, can these people not think for themselves?

Having been forced to keep the dogs in the entertainment area I got to finish Block 18 from the “Katja Marek’s Quilt with me” project.

Block 17 completed

With DH away on business for one evening I had the run of the house with no cooking whatsoever.  Always an amazing feeling and it is not as if I totally hate cooking but a change in routine is always welcome.

I finished Brenda, block 17 and still trying to give my hand and fingers a break I decided not to do more actual sewing but instead traced a couple of future blocks onto freezer paper and to cut my batting for these.

Went out to dinner with the kids and grandchild the evening and looking at the little one I often wish I had her ongoing energy.

Block 16 completed

And I am done with Louise, block 16 of the “Katja Marek’sQuilt with me” project and I am chuffed with myself as this is the second month in which I managed to complete 8 blocks.

Now I however think I should pay some attention to some of my other projects.

Block 15 finished

I had a couple of really miserable days at work with all these Black Empowerment rules that white business owners must abide to and we’re still not done.  The claims are totally ridiculous with the bottom line being that if you don’t basically give a black person (take note, not sell to…) a share in your business you won’t get any contracts from government.  Reverse racism I would say.

Thank goodness for the little quilting I can do at night otherwise I surely would have lost it.  So here is Lorna, block 15 from the “Katja Marek’s Quilt with me” project.

Finished block 14 Willa

No wonder our granddaughter is so keen on visiting us.  She always has so much fun and Oupa allows her to invent new ways to do old things.  Needless to say this pre-summer swim (in winter) had her out for the count and asleep before 10 pm last night.

Then her godmother (my youngest) came to visit in the morning and entertained her for a while giving me time to do the final touches on Block 14 of the “Katja Marek’s Quilt with me” project.
