Travel 1 & 2

With Mondays being house-cleaning days, I had to refrain from continuing my binge-watching “Stranger Things” on Netflix.  Watching this every spare moment last week means that a couple of other things have been neglected.  Knowing I would receive 2 quilts after 5pm on Monday, was just the inspiration I needed to get my life back on track but I have to admit, not watching my early morning series took major willpower.

The 2 quilts, both very similar, arrived as discussed but being hubby time, I only loaded them on Tuesday.  The quilter provided what I do believe is batting more for upholstery and not ideal for quilting.  My quilting foot got hooked on the batting and it was really no fun to stitch my top straight line, on which I place the quilt top, on the batting only. Furthermore, the thickness of the batting caused puckers in the top.  Not a fun experience.  The sad part is that I know this, due to past experiences but once a quilter goes through the trouble of bringing their quilts to me, I feel too bad to send them home to replace the batting.  However, if I wish to continue enjoying my hobby, I will need to start putting down some ground rules or at least my foot and refuse to accept these.

Be it as it may, the quilter was satisfied with the end results.  I did the same motif on both quilts to prevent one grandson to think he got less or more than the other.

Number 3 in the 4 series shirt quilts

This quilter is still going strong with quilt number 3 of 4 shirt quilts but she had to admit that she is over shirts for a while and I don’t blame her.  Fun is only fun for so long and then one has to move onto something else for a while at least.

This, however, as with the others, is a beautiful creation and will surely bring back wonderful memories.

Number two

I couldn't help thinking of this quilter using old shirts to create quilts when I saw this.  Sometimes one should look outside the box and find fabric around you and still be able to make good quilts.

This is the second of 4 memory quilts made from old shirts for the same family by the same quilter, known for her repurposing of previously worn shirts.

She only used the available shirts and did not use any other fabric and with that only, did a great job of putting a reasonable-sized quilt together.

Perfectly pieced

This quilt has so many attributes I really didn’t know what to complement and what not to mention.  The piecing is impeccable and one might think it is rectangular blocks but alas it is squares butted up against each other to mislead the eye into thinking these are rectangular BUT it would not have looked this good if the piecing was off by a smidgeon.  This quilter did a darn fine job with this.

Then the colours…… need I say more?  I also think the SID quilting spaced 1½” apart not only served its purpose but did not take away from the overall look of the quilt.

9-patch and hearts

More previously loved shirts turned into a memory quilt for family.  I think shirt quilts is becoming the trade mark of this creative quilter.
