Beach blanket in ocean colours

While waiting for the quilter of the previous quilt with the dense batting to send me other batting, I popped this beautiful quilt, to be used as a beach blanket, on the frame.  Sadly, my stitch regulations still did not work and I informed this quilter that I will finish the quilt in manual mode (no regulation of the stitch lengths).  I don’t like doing ruler work in manual mode for one has to focus on the position of the ruler and cannot look at your stitch lengths but the quilter was fine with it, so I finished the quilt.

I did however phone the technician in another city to discuss my issue and after unplugging and refitting cables, the machine worked for a small bit and then went on a slow strike again.  I, therefore, had to order new parts which will be couriered to me (hopefully sooner than later) as I still have a couple of quilts to do and having to hover in mid-air, is not my idea of fun.  A couple of thousand rands later but hopefully I will soon be on track again.

This one however did not turn out all that bad.

A massive medallion

This quilt was not really bigger than a double/queen quilt but the quilter sent along a much more dense/compact batting than the standard quilt batting.  This made advancing the quilt towards the lower part, rather difficult.

About midway through the quilting, I noticed that I was unable to regulate my stitch lengths but I thought it must be due to the density and hoped the problem would resolve itself.  Furthermore, the top had plenty of fullness and hampered smooth quilting as I regularly found puckers building up.

The quilter had an applique motif near the centre and I used this as my idea of what to do on the large white corners.

I used different motifs on the inner part to finish this and by handling the quilt one can clearly feel how much heavier it is compared to other quilts of the same size due to the denser batting.

Picnic quilt in black and white

Another brick layout this time in black and white to be used as a picnic quilt.  The quilter then requested a waterproof fabric as the backing so grass and dirt won’t stick to it.  I decided to give it a try and it looked good when done but I vowed never to work with vinyl again.  It is hard and not pliable at all.

Courthouse steps runner

Another beautiful creation in purples and white was this Courthouse Steps runner I got to quilt.  Perfectly lined up points and not a thing out of its place.

Another quilt from shirts

This quilter again turned old shirts into a beautiful memory quilt for a colleague.  Every time I see one of these, I can’t help to think about all the memories they will bring back.  I also do like the brick pattern used.
